Directors, DPs & Producers — Oh My!

Every film is a different set of relationships — and every director, cinematographer, and producer brings their own vision, pressure, and personality to the process. After 5 decades and over 100 film credits, Jeff has worked alongside some of the industry's most iconic filmmakers, including Michael Mann, Ang Lee, Alan Alda, Michael Apted, Nic Roeg, Volker Schlöndorff and more.

In this talk, Jeff shares candid stories from behind the camera — what it's really like collaborating with directors chasing a singular vision, DPs shaping how the actors & effects are lit and captured, and producers balancing creative ambition against time and budget. Equal parts funny, honest, and instructive, this session pulls back the curtain on the real dynamics of a film set.

Blue Velvet

A Masterclass with Jeff Goodwin

In 1985, Jeff kept a visual diary for continuity on the set of David Lynch's Blue Velvet, filmed in Wilmington, NC. Forty years later, he shares those original photographs and the stories behind them — offering a rare, firsthand look into the craft, collaboration, and creative risk-taking behind one of American cinema's most influential and iconic films.

This is more than a retrospective — it's an insider's education in the making of a cult classic: what it took to realize David Lynch's singular vision through makeup and practical effects, and the lessons in craftsmanship that remain relevant to filmmakers, artists, and storytellers today.

Featuring never-before-shared archival photos, personal stories from the set, and a live Q&A. Available for booking at conventions, film festivals, screening series, and film schools.
