Bitten
in 1968
Jeff Goodwin's father took him to see Planet of the Apes in 1968. Gorillas on horseback, and that was it. He spent the rest of his childhood on late-night shock theater, trying to work out how they did it.
He learned the craft in North Carolina theater, then met producer Dino De Laurentiis, who moved him from picture to picture until he could handle anything a set threw at him. That path led to David Lynch's Blue Velvet in 1986, where Jeff supervised the makeup, built the gore, and made the severed ear.
From there: Rambo III, The Handmaid's Tale, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Last of the Mohicans, Super Mario Bros., Empire Records, Ang Lee's Ride with the Devil, A Walk to Remember, War & Peace in Russia. More recently, Mr. Mercedes, Scream and The Black Phone.
In 1995 he founded Transformations Makeup FX Lab and School, developed his own Trans-Mud, Trans-Grease and Trans-Age products, and has taught makeup and effects to students from Wilmington to Rome. His rule for anyone who wants the job: the effects get the attention, but the bread and butter is regular makeup. Know it all.
